The Hinjewadi IT Park

Pune has become a major IT hub in the recent past. When you think about IT in Pune, the first name that comes to mind is 'Hinjewadi.'

Hinjewadi is located at the north-west outskirts of Pune. It is about 5 km from Baner and 11 km from Pashan. Hinjewadi is the IT hub of Pune. It is very close to Pune city - about 40 minutes drive from the city. While commuting from Mumbai, it is located about 8 km just after you exit the Expressway. Pune is an important center of education and research, and the easy availability of software engineers is an advantage. Software exports from Pune have manifold thanks to the presence of major IT companies at Hinjewadi. A lion's share of this revenue comes from the IT companies located at Hinjewadi.

Hinjewadi IT Park - Overview

In 2003, the government of Maharashtra revised it's IT and ITES policy in a bid to attract software companies. One of the most logical choices for establishing an IT Park was Hinjewadi. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Hinjewadi offers an area that was spacious enough to accommodate the IT companies
  • It is far enough from Pune city, yet close enough to make commuting possible
  • Hinjewadi offers lush green surroundings
  • It is nearer to Mumbai via the newly built Expressway than any other suburb

To make investment at Hinjewadi attractive to IT companies, the government waived stamp duties for owned and leased properties built on MIDC land. Thus came to existence the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park. Also known as the Hinjewadi IT Park, this IT hub is host to many software majors like Infosys, Wipro, Geometric, Cognizant, etc.

The Hinjewadi project is to be developed in four or five phases; the first three phases are already completed.
